Class overviews
Air Steps
YEP, this is an aerials class. We plan to try and cover a very basic lift then move to something a bit more dynamic. Pants or shorts are recommended for this class as we do plan on getting you, inverted. Note: We will not rotate partners in this class.
An Intoxicating Investigation of Zombies in the World of Tomorrow
Yes, it’s back, by popular demand. Through pictures, music, and video clips, you will journey through time to discover the connections between a Hollywood tiki bar, the 1939 World’s Fair, a swing song, and some very famous lindy hoppers from a very famous ballroom. This presentation is for those of legal drinking age.
Balboa at its Best
Jeff & Heidi start your day right with some awesome balboa’ness. That all you need to know about that!
Balboa Basics
Balboa goodness from Jeff & Sara. What level is this class? Good question. The answer is YOUR level! That’s right, YOU! The person reading this right now! It is at YOUR level! Isn’t that amazing!!?
Big Apple
Get the flavor of this circle dance craze from the 1930’s. Learn part of the Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers choreography and join the fun!
Blues Basics
Learn the basics to get you dancing the Blues.
Call & Response
How to make each dance a conversation by listening to your partner and improvi-ing off each other. – Sara & Alan
Camp Swing Song for Kids!
Come learn a short, fun, easy Camp Swing song that we can sing at the Variety Show and you’ll keep singing for years to come.
Cartoon Swing Moves
Fun swing moves featured in old-timey cartoons
Chasin it Home!
The Chase into Tandem Charleston is a move that Kirk and Iris love! Not only is it fun to do on the social dance floor but it’s also fun to watch – whether for a performance or in a jam. Learn the technique behind how to do the Chase well – from the Lead and Follow’s standpoint. Plus, they hope to teach you not only how to make it happen clearly and smoothly but also a variation that involves JUMPING into it.
Intermediate/Advanced (ideal students would be those who have learned that Chase before but haven’t felt like they’ve mastered it… but we could also teach it from ground zero if that works better)
Dean & Jewel Stylings
Learn to swing dance like a movie star
Frankie’s Favorites
Kirk and Iris were lucky enough to meet Frankie Manning and take classes with him. One of their favorite things is teaching dancers some of Frankie’s favorite moves. They’ll be teaching some moves that aren’t the “typical” Frankie Favorites so get ready for a fun and challenging class!
Intermediate+ (should be comfortable with basic 8-count and 6-count movements including swingouts).
Gatsby’s Charleston
Before Lindy Hop and Lindy Charleston, there was the Charleston of the 1920s. This class will focus on this dance before the dance.
Intermediate Lindy
No basics here! Fun and challenging Lindy patterns to add to your Lindy vocabulary.
Lindy Connection & Flow FUNdamentals
How to be the lead and follow everyone LOVES to dance with because you just “feel good” Techniques for frame matching and creating that magical connection where you can lead or follow anything and know where to ad lib. Technique to make your moves flow together and flow across the floor.
Lindy Meets Charleston
Should know the basic swing out and closed position. Lindy hip with lots of partner Charleston as the focus. Bouncy fun!
Mellow Tahitian
Learn the movements and vocals of a lovely Tahitian song. You’ll long for the sand under your toes and a tiki mug in your hand!
More Shag
This is a great class for those who are comfortable with basic Shag footwork as well as for those who took the Basic Shag class. We will introduce some new steps as well as cover more styling detail on some that were introduced in the basic class. NOTE: if you are comfortable with basic steps you are not required to take Basic Shag before this class.
Music, Musicality, and Choreography
Is your brain full of moves? Feet need a rest? This is a sit-down class! We will go over how music is structured, how to take your dancing to the next level without adding a single step, and touch on choreography…if there is interest in that.
Original Solo Jazz Routine (Cou Cou)
Intermediate. To the song Cou Cou by Django Rheinhardt
Our Favorite Swingout Footwork Variations
Join Kirk and Iris for their favorite footwork variations within a Swingout. Having these variations in your Lindy Hop tool belt increases the fun you have on the social dance floor because it adds to the dance conversation with your partner and with the music. Intermediate+ (should be very comfortable with a vanilla swingout)
Pass-By Mania
The world is your oyster when it comes to pass-bys! Join Kirk and Iris to learn a bunch of fun variations to take your social dancing to the next level. Learn the moves while also learning the technique behind Leading and Following them. Plus, Follows will learn how to “take the Lead” in the middle of a pass-by and Leads will learn to “listen.”
Shag Basics
For those looking to have a go at learning the fundamentals of Collegiate Shag or those with some experience looking to get more comfortable, this would be a great class for you. We will teach the basics regarding partner connection footwork, and drill these through a pattern of moves that we will continue to build on in The “More Shag” class.
Signature Lindy Moves
Beginner/intermediate level Lindy. If you can do the swing out, this is the class for you!
Slow Bal
Slow Balboa, a.k.a. the Laminu, is really a dance all to itself. If you are not a blues dancer, but still want to dance to slower tempos, here’s a wonderful dance you can do in front of your grandparents that will not make them blush.
Spins & Turns Technique
Intermediate
Swing Out Bootcamp
What does it mean for a Swingout to “feel good?” How do you get the stretch and momentum needed to then spring back together and back again? Leads and Follows are both imperative for this to occur. Join Iris and Kirk as they take you through a Swingout bootcamp, to break down each movement within a Swingout so both roles understand where their bodies need to be every step of the way.
Switches and Swivels
Basic lindy prerequisite
Thriller
Learn the dance from Thriller and have fun performing as a zombie at the Variety Show.
Vintage Hair
Simple tricks for vintage hair for the hair-challenged. Bring your own hair.
